We were curious about what the average escape room price was in the United States. While we don’t have the capability to survey every single room available, we realized that there are several large chains of escape rooms in the United States that have wide geographic coverage and an easy way to look up the price for each location. These chains also have a small portfolio of 60-minute games that are standardized and replicated across the United States.

We found specifically that Breakout Games (32 locations in our dataset) The Escape Game (21 locations in our dataset), and PanIQ Room (12 locations in our dataset) were the three chains that we narrowed down on, although we are open to more. Sometimes, prices varied based on the weekday or team composition. When it made a difference, we looked at the per person price for a 4-person team on a weekend. Games with more players or on weekdays may cost less.

Escape Room Chains

Breakout Games had 32 locations in our dataset. The prices vary depending on group size, but for a team of 4, a game ranges from a minimum of $31 per player to a maximum of $40 per player. The $40 per player games were in Columbus, Ohio and Gaitlinburg, TN, which we don’t quite have a good explanation for. Their 32 games nationally have an average price of ~$32.50.

The Escape Game has 21 locations in our dataset, ranging from a minimum of $35 per player to a maximum of $43 per player. The four locations with the most expensive $43 per player games are all in high-cost-of-living metro areas: American Dream Mall (NJ), Irvine (CA), New York (NY), and San Francisco (CA). Their average game price comes out higher than Breakout Games to an average of ~$38.50.

PanIQ room has 12 locations in our dataset, with potentially varying prices based on private/public games, weekend/weekday games, and team size. We use a private weekend gae with 4 players as the baseline. PanIQ per player prices ranged from $34 to a whopping $49 per player in Las Vegas (NV). This company matches The Escape Game with the highest per player average of ~$38.50.

Average Escape Room Prices

We make our estimate based on our geographically diverse sample of 65 chain escape room facilities across the United States. As of 2022 we estimate the average price of a 60-minute escape room to be approximately $36 per player, with most games falling in the range of $33-$39 per player. Again, these numbers are based on 4-player private games on weekends.

This is a development and increase from the original $30 per player that many people may be anchored on from early age of escape rooms. We suspect that much of the ~20% increase in average escape room prices came from after the COVID-19 pandemic, when many companies switched to a private booking model (which is generally more expensive per person), the industry exited its growth phase and focused on cashflow, and many facilities encountered higher costs.
