Best Sacramento Escape Rooms
We broke up our top-recommended games into 3 different categories: Best Overall, Best Private Games, and Best for Beginners.
Best Overall
If you’re a visiting escape room enthusiast, these are the three rooms you can’t miss. These games are all public booking, which means that strangers may join your games if you don’t buy all slots.
- Skull Witch – Enchambered (Public $35, 3-6p, Sacramento): This paranormal bayou cabin is an inventive marriage of set design and tech. All of the puzzles involve interacting with the elaborate space in magical ways. Our pick for #1 in Sacramento and one of the best in California. Book at https://www.enchambered.com/
- Condemned 2 – Norcal Escape (Public $25, 4-10p, Yuba City): The concrete walls of this cultist lair enclose a complex and invigorating space. Your group (if you have 6+ or at special request) is split into two, and both halves get some large puzzles that interact with the setting. We’d play this game again. Book at https://www.norcalescape.co/
- Whispering Halls – Enchambered (Public $35, 3-10p, Sacramento): Each room of this old Victorian house has its own character, from a creepy hall to a lofty room to cramped chambers and more. While no longer the best game at Enchambered, this is absolutely worth a trip. Book at https://www.enchambered.com/
Best Private Games
While the default booking structure in Sacramento seems to be public, there are some companies that offer private games at reasonable prices. These choices are great if you don’t want to play with strangers or prefer small team sizes.
- Sweet Revenge – Quandary Escape Rooms (Public / Private $28-$36, 2-8p, Roseville): This is Quandary’s newest game (opened December 2018) and we think clearly their best. This game features a delightful candy shop set, fun puzzles, and a (soon-to-come) traitor mode. Private and public bookings are available. Book at http://www.quandaryescaperooms.com/
- Trespassed – California State Escape (Private $35, 2-10p, Sacramento): This is a abandoned-house game with many elements designed to make you feel uncomfortable. We enjoyed the scary atmosphere and how the game developed as players unlocked new rooms. Come for the set, not the puzzles. Book at https://www.californiastateescape.com/
- Space Sector – California State Escape (Private $35, 2-12p, Sacramento): This space laboratory is full of tactile puzzles in a clean, uncluttered set. We liked some of the decorative choices which heightened the tension. Expect a lot of numerical combination locks. Book at https://www.californiastateescape.com/
- Dynaline Incident – Quandary Escape Rooms (Public / Private $28-$36, 2-8p, Roseville): This science lab hides an unexpected story in its successive rooms. Set design is decent, but we recommend this game more for players who go for the tech-based puzzles. Private and public bookings are available. Book at http://www.quandaryescaperooms.com/
Best for Beginners
We recommend these games for beginners. There are fun, approachable games that can get you or your friends excited about escape rooms.
- Foxtail Saloon – Norcal Escape (Public $20, 2-8p, Yuba City): Light puzzling, heavy searching, and a beautiful set makes this lovely saloon our pick for the ideal beginner game in Sacramento. Prices are low for the industry. Come for the set, not the puzzles. Tip: Search thoroughly and use your hints wisely. Book at https://www.norcalescape.co/
- Containment Breach – Enchambered (Public $30, 3-8p, Sacramento): This abandoned bunker is a well-done code-heavy game, with a number of fun high-tech elements to explore. This is Enchambered’s beginner game and we’d recommend this for teams without much experience. Book at https://www.enchambered.com/
Book at http://www.quandaryescaperooms.com/ (Note: While this room is appropriate for beginners, it is not easy and only has a 20% escape rate.)

I’m really surprised you left off exit strategy games. They’re not in Sacramento, but they are in Elk Grove and they’re awesome!!! I would highly recommend their torture chamber. It scared me so bad, hahaha.
