#1. Forgotten Treasure – Omescape (Richmond)

The captain of your ship, Captain William Kidd IX, led a secret life as a pirate who accumulated a hidden fortune. Opened in 2014 as one of the earliest rooms in the Bay Area, Forgotten Treasure is the most expansive room in their large Richmond, CA facility.

Review

Forgotten Treasure by Omescape is a large, high-tech adventure where you’ll be whisked through a series of pirate-themed rooms. For example, expect a sand pit and a wooden boat that both fill up a good portion of their rooms. Follow the instructions and you’ll see a lot!

Tips

This room is completely linear, which means that you’ll definitely feel bottleneck effects if you bring too many people. Even though the room is marketed for up to 10, we think the ideal team size is around 5 for experienced room escapers, and more for less experienced teams.

Quick Facts

  • Our Rating: ★★★★★
  • Location: Richmond, CA
  • Good for beginners: Somewhat, although there’s a lot of content.
  • Price: $30 per person
  • Size, Duration: 5-10 players, 60 minutes

#2. Quest for the Crown – Exit 2 Escape (Dublin)

As rightful heirs to the crown, you and your team must explore the castle to find your birthright and escape in order to restore justice to the kingdom. Opened in October 2017, Quest for the Crown is the first of three games that will be at Exit 2 Escape’s Dublin location.

Review

This is a brand new room with solid puzzling and fun decor. The room features woodcraft made by the creators, giving it a nice more crafty and unique feel. There was one particular physical puzzle that we really enjoyed that put a fun twist on a common escape room puzzle.

Tips

This room is beginner friendly and great for team-building. We recommend a team size of 4 for experienced room escapers, but larger for teams with less experience. One particular puzzle requires 4 people to physically complete (although maybe you can get a bit creative).

#3. Pirate Adventure – Limitless Escape (Livermore)

You and your band of pirate friends have plundered various treasures and awakened the wrath of the deadly Kraken. Your goal is to escape the Kraken and save your crew. Limitless Escape Games opened this game (along with 2 others) in February 2017.

Review

This Kraken-themed game features appropriate pirate-themed decor and some fun puzzles involving larger set pieces. The puzzles are clean, logical, and tactile and the game progression flows well. Overall a solid game for groups of friends, coworkers, or strangers.

Tips

This game is beginner-friendly and great for team-building. We recommend a team size of around 3 for experienced room escapers, but more is fine for less experienced teams. They also have 2 more games and a new location in Stockton.

Quick Facts

  • Our Rating: ★★★★
  • Location: Livermore, CA
  • Good for beginners: Yes, absolutely!
  • Price: $30 per person

#4. Penitentiary – Omescape (Richmond)

Laser maze within Omescape's Penitentiary.

Omescape’s Penitentiary features an impressive laser maze in a mock prison facility.

You find yourself in the control room of a high-security prison with access to the system’s personnel files. Opened in 2014 as one of the earliest rooms in the Bay Area, Penitentiary is part of Omescape’s large Richmond, CA escape room facility.

Review
Penitentiary is a robustly-constructed, atmospheric escape room with a fun progression through the multiple parts. The room is fully automated with neat surprises around the corner, including a laser-maze-lined hallway.

Tips

We recommend a team size of around 6 for experienced room escapers, but more for less experienced teams. You’ll be splitting up into two groups (a large group and a small group), and the flow is a bit uneven, with one of the groups often eventually not having enough to do.

Quick Facts

  • Our Rating: ★★★★
  • Location: Richmond, CA
  • Good for beginners: Somewhat, although this game has a more complex flow.
  • Price: $30 per person
  • Size, Duration: 6-10 players, 60 minutes
